Another Comfort

On a recent trip to San Antonio, we took a side trip to the star of the Texas Hill Country--Comfort, Texas.  We had a great time and the locals made us feel very much at home.  We took in "The Taste of Comfort," a benefit for the local library that featured German, Mexican, and Texas cuisine and a great country band.

Built on a German and Southwest tradition, the community has a very unique aura.  An area so rich in culture it once held three opera houses and was the home of the only other Comfort Theatre we have found.

The bright yellow art deco structure is now an antique store, but its roots are obvious. When you step inside, the shelves are stacked on the theater seats and the proscenium and the stage are still intact. Maybe someday...

The town got its name from "Gemuetlichkeit," a word that connotes in German a sense of tranquility, serenity, peace, and happiness.  We figure that is what "comfort" is all about!
